Common Summer Skin Problems and How to Deal with Them

Summer Skin Problems

There is nothing better than spending days outside and enjoying fun activities during the summer. The season is also perfect for going on long holidays and jumping into big adventures. All the time you spend outside is time your skin is exposed to the elements. This could lead to some skin problems that are common in summer.

Summer skin problems can be avoided and most of them are easy to solve. To help prevent a severe skin issue ruining your holiday, here are the common skin problems to anticipate and how to deal with them.

Razor Burn

Getting that summer look often means removing excess hair from different parts of your body. This may seem like a simple thing to do, but it can lead to a wide range of problems, including razor burn. Razor burn happens when you irritate the skin by doing several passes with a razor.

To avoid razor burn, make sure you use a high-quality razor designed for sensitive skin. The razor will have a moisturizing strip on its edge for preventing burn. You also want to avoid using an old razor, especially one that has been used multiple times.

If you do suffer from razor burn, apply a moisturizer that contains aloe vera. Aloe vera gel is much easier to find these days because it is used in many products. You can even find aloe vera gel with more than 90% of aloe vera in it.

Heat Rash

Heat rash is a bacterial infection without the actual infection. It is caused by heat and the sweat you produce because of that heat, but the underlying reason for it is bacteria clogging the pores. In the case of mild heat rash, the rash will go away on its own.

There are, however, circumstances where you may need to seek help with the rash. In certain cases, you may be dealing with folliculitis, which is a similar skin issue caused also by bacteria. If the blocked pores aren’t clearing themselves, further treatment may be needed.

It is highly recommended that you see a dermatologist in any of these cases. Top practices like the London Dermatology Centre have doctors specialising in dermatology and they can identify – and cure – the issue in no time at all.

Irritated Skin

The heat of the summer and the extra time you spend outside are the main reasons why your skin needs more nutrients. During the summer, you need to moisturise often and make sure you hydrate. Failure to do these things will lead to irritated and dry skin.  Select the best moisturizer with ultra hydrating ingredients if your skin tends to get too dry and flaky. You can choose between oil-based or gel-based, though most people opt for the gel-based as it is not greasy and heavy on the face.

When you feel your skin drying up and getting easily irritated, there are a few things you can do. Switching to a moisturising soap and shampoo is a good start; you also want to shower more often, especially after a day out.

Using sunscreen and treating the skin with nutrient-rich products like aloe vera gel are also highly recommended. If the drying continues, consult a doctor and see if you need a special treatment to prevent worse skin irritation. That way, the issue won’t ruin your summer at all.
